Mary Joyner Greene, also known as MJ, hails from North Carolina but knew the American west was in her soul since a young age. She first came to Lander in 2004 to take her NOLS instructor course in the Wind River Range. MJ had an eleven-year career with NOLS, working as a senior field instructor, a program supervisor, and as the field staff recruitment coordinator. She worked at the Wyoming Outdoor Council for four years before becoming the executive director of the Lander Community Foundation.

MJ learned about the original Womemtum program in Jackson and knew immediately that women in Lander could benefit from a similar program. In 2015 after asking to participate in the Jackson program, MJ, Paula, and Anne were able to join a Jackson cohort. The intention was to bring something similar to Lander and that was the inception of Lander Womentum. After our first cohort completed our inaugural 9-month program in 2017-18, we asked alumnae Amy and Emily to join the three of us, and together we act as the leadership team. We are continually open to improving the experience for our participants and hope we provide a comfortable and safe environment for learning, asking difficult questions, and are a resource for personal and professional growth for each other.

Since moving to Lander in 2011, Mary has devoted herself to the Lander community in many ways from volunteering to serving as a board member and consultant to several of the many nonprofits and organizations in town. In her free time, she enjoys horse packing and hiking in the mountains, walking with friends, cooking and baking, quilting, and having adventures with her family. She and her husband, Ariel, have two daughters, Halle Wendell and Louise.
